In Upper Manhattan, this existing industrial shell was converted into a 15,000 square foot day rehabilitation center for developmentally disabled adults that are confined to motorized wheelchairs. The completed project provided these individuals with new classrooms with custom skylight enclosures, a large lunch room that doubles as an entertainment space, occupational and physical therapy rooms, meeting rooms, an activity room and eight HC bathrooms that were specifically designed for motorized wheelchairs to enter them. The existing façade was demolished and rebuilt using split faced CMU’s. New automatic storefronts were installed, as well as motorized interior doors. This space is fully sprinklered, has a new fire alarm system and has a gas powered generator on the roof. This project was worked on from the fall of 2010 through the winter of 2011.
